A line from one of her favourite movies.
Well, she did want to know what it tasted like. She’d been wondering for years. And now she was ready to find out.
It was an experiment, don’t you see?
She’d researched it for weeks. Looking for the best way to get what she wanted, with the least inconvinience.
She was ready.
She hoped she’d remember what it had felt like. She guessed she would.
After all, she did believe in reincarnation.
Deep breath.
She plunged the knife into her jugular.

OR, Kyunki it’s over.

Yes, it’s over.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the longest running Indian TV show, is, as of today, terminated.
Ekta Kapoor has fought hard, but even the court seemed to think 8 years was too much for Indian audiences.
My reaction? I cry. With sheer relief.
Not that i watched it, but for god’s sake, 8 years! In 8 years, characters have lived and died and been reincarnated using plastic surgery. Ugh. For 8 years, Indian audiences have suffered. This is their salvation.
But for those who actually LIKED the show, now there’s a void. No more KSBKBT. Whatever shall we do? No more Tulsi, no more…..i don’t know any other characters. No more glorious joint family story to take us away from the world. Now we have to go worry about our own problems.
Sigh.
We see now, all over India, the stress of PKSS (post kyunki stress syndrome). It seems to primarily affect housewives and other women.
SYmptoms include sobbing, staring blankly at the TV, and remniscing about kyunki. some may believe that the characters actually exist.
Last year, FRIENDS was terminated. The whole world cried at the thought of no more Ross-rachel fights, no more Joey and Phoebe, no more Mondler. Can we make a comparison here?
Absolutely not, because Friends was actually Bloody Good!
So what do the victims of PKSS (post Kunki stress syndrome) do?
They mourn for a while, and would have switched over to Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. But that’s packed up too.
Void.

PS: I’m NOT comparing Friends with saas bahu shit.

What people do in the name of faith….or, what faith and devotion moves people to do.

Some take the oath of Diksha and renounce the world, at a very young age, or at the zenith of their career. Some drop a diamond studded cell-phone into a donation box.

Faith and an urgency to take darshan has resulted in stampedes at temples. Faith drives people to wake up before dawn so that they can be the first to get Darshan at Lalbaugcha Raja (the most popular Ganpati pandal in Mumbai)

Faith moves people to heal.

Faith moves people to strap bombs to themselves and explode in public.

Well, not really, only we learnt in Chem class that aspirin has an anti coagulant effect and is used by high BP patients to prevent heart attacks. Like they’re told to take one daily, to lessen the chances.
Promising. The feel-good image of a deep red glossy apple, the sensation of biting into it and feeling the sweet-tart juice run down your throat, all that is now being replaced by an impersonal little pill with a bitter aftertaste. Says a lot about the life we live, doesn’t it?

Read in the news recently: Condoms and safe sex are not even mentioned in the new sex-ed modules being planned by govt. The plan is, instead, to advocate abstinence and being faithful to a single partner.

Agreed, abstinence is the best way to avoid STDs and pregnancy, but, well, it’s obvious not too many people are going to go for it. Sex is no longer the taboo, confined only to the bedroom and the mind. Once again, we’re finding out just how good it is.

Monogamy, si, a noble idea. Mom gave me huge long lecture recently about how we just get into relationships for the fun, how we should focus on our lives first and not on relationships, seeing that they take up a lot of time and energy.

She’s right, I suppose, and that’s the reason I’m a bit scared of relationships as opposed to fling-things. Though, as kay sniffily told me, a lot of people don’t share my opinion.

So yes, all this is very good and all, very good that they’re FINALLY introducing sex-ed (god knows we need it….). It might be a bit giggly and embarassing at first, but it’d be infinite help, seeing that a lot of us learn about sex and other things related either from porn or from friends who are VERY open with conversation, or online on those sites that ISPs love to block. Those of us who don’t, are rather confused, though no one admits it.

Sex ed would stop men in their twenties writing to the Mumbai mirror sexpert with queries like “Will kissing my girlfriend on the lips make her pregnant?” Yes, I’ve seen this and similar ones more than twice in the past fortnight. The reply is almost invariably a frustrated “educate yourself.”

But ’tis rather strange that the words “condom” and “safe sex” get not even an honourable mention ………My tenth grade bio book went only as far as to mutter shamefacedly about copulation. One word. that’s it. Our bio teacher didn’t even do that part properly. but then again, that was Bio.

My point being that maybe we should be taught everything there is to know, and we should choose the path we wish to tread.

Abstinence, any takers?

Apparently not, and not all thaaaat many for birth control either…..the proof lies in our population.

It’s human tendency, i think, to be pessimist. Human tendency to be so caught up in what we’re doing that we forget the actual aim of life.

Maybe the world is ceasing to have time for the little things that used to make us unconditionally happy…..

like the sound of a cat purring…

like the satisfaction after a really good work out…

like a bear hug from your best friend…

like a sunrise…

the joy of taking a perfect photo….

like blowing bubbles…

Maybe it’s the pretty colours, iridiscent rainbows, colours that no paintbox can replicate, changing every second. Maybe it’s the way they fly away, light, beautiful and free, the way we all want to be….

The perfection.

The fact that a thousand physics lessons can be taken from a perfect bubble.

And that my dear, is the aim of life, finding joy. And growing. We’ve forgotten that.

Most creative professions have their little challenges, the dark horses, the Everests……the little hates…like Ami on Miami ink hates having to do fairies, I think advertisers must detest doing ads for sanitary pads.
Periods are a pain, period….okay, full-stop. You’d think it’s easy to get used to, seeing that it’s inevitable and happens every month….but it’s not. Fact remains that we hate it and everything about it. Hate PMS, Detest the cramps, and loathe the ickiness…
Therefore, when we’re in a state where violence seems rational, we really don’t want to see the happy-happy pad ads, all SO untrue.
Most ads seem to say, use our product and you’ll be comfy doing anything, playing soccer to climbing gates to running through sprinklers.
Not true. comfort lies not in the brand used, It lies in yourself….
So..”Have a happy period”…??
Not possible. Not even probable. Tolerable, maybe. Happy, no. Not unless your product can stop cramps and PMS and everything else we hate about this monthly show of blood. So keep dreaming.
I wonder if the girls in the ads have their period when the ad’s being filmed……
